Bev was born and raised in Monticello, Utah. Her family is the third generation to own and operate the Black Oil Company, a gas and oil distributorship. Her father insisted that his kids get their motorcycle licenses at age 16, so she has had one every since. Bev lost both parents at a young age, her father to an automobile accident at age 42. She was only 23 at the time. Her mother succumbed to breast cancer at 56 when she was 37. Bev is the oldest of 5 siblings and remains the "mother" figure in their lives, especially to her little brother, who is only 32.
Bev lived in Monticello, Utah, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Mesa, Arizona, and now resides in Grand Junction, with a winter home in Mesa, AZ.
Her husband, Dave, grew up in Gunnison and became a cop. He moved to Grand Junction to go to Mesa and became the first community relations officer here in the police department. He was the first president of the motorcycle cop academy in Denver and one of the first motorcycle cops here in Junction. They met while they were both employed by Geotech doing the mill tailings cleanup in Monticello, Utah in 1992. They lived there for a while and then moved to Mesa, AZ and then back to Monticello to work in the family business, but wanted to get back to Grand Junction. They purchased "Mr. Payroll", a check cashing business in 1998, plus added another location in 2000. They purchased a home on the Tiara Rado golf course in 1998 and continue to reside there. Bev manages the businesses, takes care of the house, yard and her husband. Dave has a daughter who lives in Kansas and Bev has 2 sons, one in Mesa, AZ and one who lives here.
They purchased a Gold Wing while in Arizona and joined the local Gold Wingers. They both really enjoyed it. Since then they have owned several different bikes. When her husband was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2000, Bev surprised him with his first Harley. A beautiful red Ultra Classic which they rode for several thousand miles. This year his disease has progressed and he couldn't hold the bike and her up, so he traded it in for her "Pink Fat Boy" as Bev’s valentines day present. Dave is to be commended for this unselfish and incredible act of love. He is a sweet and caring man.
Bev took the Motorcycle Edge class in April, just to brush up on her riding skills and passed with flying colors! She has since been riding around town with her girlfriend, who owns a BMW and has decided to get a Harley also. She really enjoys riding and the sense of freedom she gets from the wind blowing her cares away. They have belonged to the HOG club since April of 2001 and enjoy interaction with club members. Dave is too ill to attend anymore but encourages her to continue riding and enjoying life and the camaraderie of the Western Slope H.O.G.
We are delighted to have them in our club and wish them all the best. Please show them the love and caring ways of our H.O.G family as they move through this difficult time.
