MARCH/APRIL  Newsletter

Letter from the Director:

WOW!  What a meeting we had Wednesday night, March 1.  If you missed it, you missed out on a wonderful presentation by Chris Brown of Browns Cycles about the history of Motorcycles in Grand Junction, Thank Chris, and thank you Jesus for setting it up.

It’s hard to sit here and write this letter, knowing it 65 degrees out, and I am starting to get that “I don’t want to go to work” feeling, but the BIG SWEDE(aka Linda) says to stop whining and get my you know what to work. She is the designated adult in our family. Anyway you can’t beat this weather for riding.

I welcome all the new and returning members, I’ve never been bashful about making new riding buddies.

We have some good rides coming up, so be sure to check out the calendar on the web site for dates and times.   By attending some of these rides, I guarantee that you will make some of the best friends you could ever have.

On a special note, my heart goes out to Bev Allen and family for their loss. You can turn to us for any help you need.

Ride and have fun

Terry

GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

MARCH 1, 2006

Director Terry Edwards called the meeting to order at 7:00.  Terry said sadly that member Dave Allen had passed away this morning, and a motorcycle escort was being provided for his funeral, and said that anyone who wanted to participate would be notified of the time and place.

Membership director, Ike Isaacson, introduced new members Bob Slee, Greg Trent, John Lamar and Ed Buechle.  Welcome!

Secretary Pam Morris read the minutes and they were approved.

Ed Dyas, events coordinator of the 2006 annual hog rally was invited to speak.  This year’s rally will be held June 8-10 and is a traveling rally, beginning in Golden at the Jefferson Co. fairgrounds on the 8th and ending with awards on Saturday and a blessing of bikes on Sunday. To get more info, the rally website is www.costatehogrally.com.

Jesus Guerrero, historian, introduced Chris Brown of Brown’s Cycles, winner of the 2004 new business of the year award given by the Chamber of Commerce, as well as “the Best of the West” award, given by the Daily Sentinel.  Chris presented an overhead show of the bicycle/motorcycle growth and development in the Grand Valley from approximately 1898 to 1951, featuring photographs of the Felix Carson family and other long-time resident families, including the Patterson, Fouts and Jarvis families. Great old-time photos of our own Grand Junction motorcycle “rallies.”   Many thanks to Chris for the interesting presentation.

Vice-director Mario Zulian presented Honda “Ride for Kids”, coming up in Golden, New Mexico and Billings. See Mario for more info.

Many thanks to Jon and Amy for a great time last month at the Billiards parlor – 29 folks in attendance, all had a great time.

Kevin Moran introduced the idea of a swap meet to be held at the dealership. Most liked the idea, so Terry will talk with Scott.

Webmaster Paul Turner said new web site was up and running: simple, but informative. Go to gjharley.com, select hog chapter and link to our new site. Thanks Paul!

Activities director Amy Dyer introduced her new helper Karen Staples. This month features a ride to Moab Brewery March 25, leaving at 10 a.m. sharp from GJHD.  There is a progressive breakfast (4 stops) on April 2, leaving GJHD at 9 a.m. and a Social at GJ Scores on Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m.  Bowling and Pool, with soup/sandwich available for $10/person.

Road Captain Neil Webster invited all to a wiener roast/ride along the San Miguel River on Sat, April 22, leaving GJHD at 10 a.m.  Bring your own fixin’s for a great time.

Ladies of Harley P.J. Buechle set up a Ladies of Harley brunch at the Rockslide on April 9 at 10 a.m.  Bring ideas for activities.

Randy Swanson gave the safety tip of the month: watch for dirt, ice and/or sand built up on inside right corners, as well as the center line. Also be aware of the freeze/thaw cycles happening now, causing rocks and debris to fall in the canyons – Sorry Jill!

Meeting was adjourned at 8:15.
