January/February Newsletter

Letter from the Director:

2006 already and I was just getting used to writing 2005, I want to thank everyone in their efforts to give me the distinguished title again this year and I hope I can help make it a fun year of riding.  The board that you have elected has already been busy, and our number one job was to find a nice place to have our meetings. Walla, we found one, and we well start having our monthly club meetings there on Wednesday, the 1st of February.  It’s the VFW Post 1247 hall located at 1404 Ute Avenue.

This year looks promising for some good rides, including a few overnighters and I hope an old fashioned breakfast run, and Sturgis maybe.  We will be hitting some of the best scenery in the country so bring your camera, and don’t forget to pose for Jesus.

Terry

P.S.  I want to thank the out going board for a great 2005, good job!

26th Annual Toy Run

The Toy Run this year was a great success!  Thanks to Jose’ and Shawn Duran and the Toy Run Committee, and all the participants!  We had a beautiful day and over 300 bikes participated.

We ended at Whiskey River and had great stew and door prizes.  Thank you to all who participated.  The Salvation Army was very pleased with the toys and you all made Christmas a little more special for boys and girls in the Grand Valley!

Christmas Party!

On Dec 17, the Hog Club had a Christmas party at Harold Woolard’s. Tim Himes cooked BBQ for us and there were many GREAT cooks that brought dishes.  Betty’s chocolate chip cookies were high on the delicious list!  Jesus Guerrero did a slide show presentation of pictures from the year.  He has CD’s for sale if you missed out on getting one. They are $10 and proceeds go to the Club.  Gift exchange was fun as usual and you missed a good time if you weren’t there!!!

GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

JANUARY 2006

Terry Edwards called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  He asked all to return the survey which was handed out earlier.  This survey will also be mailed to all members who have not yet renewed their membership. This survey asks all members to rate their degree of satisfaction in different areas relating to the chapter: meeting time, location and length, membership benefits, dealership support, loyalty point program, type and frequency of rides, monthly dinners, toy run, auction, and white Hog party. Additional space is provided for other comments and suggestions. Dick Gigliotti will compile results.

Terry announced that after much discussion with the old and new board members at the Board meeting, the meetings will be held at a new location beginning in February. The meetings will be held the first Wednesday of the month at the VFW hall located at 1404 Ute Avenue in Grand Junction. The hall will open at 6:30 for dinner and the meeting will begin at 7. A Sample menu was handed out. Terry thanked Miki for her hospitality at the diner and encouraged all to come out for her great breakfasts.

Tom Krouse presented the Treasurer report. All were thanked for their donations to this effort, especially Tim and Sue Himes for their great food after the toy run. Tom reported that the First National Bank of the Rockies donated the funds for the police escort and indicated a desire to contribute to this from now on. Scott asked about the filing of 2004 taxes. Tom is working on them, as well as 2005.

Ike Isakson, membership officer, introduced the new member Ernest Hale and related that we have about 50 paid up members at this time. Only paid up members will receive a newsletter.

Activities Director Amy Dyer passed out the calendar for January. There will be a Road Captain’s Meeting at Neil’s house on Jan 24th at 7 p.m.

Ladies of Harley Rep P.J. Buechle has Harley materials for sale – hats and t-shirts are coming. She asked that members notify her when someone is ill so she can send a card.

Road Captain Neil Webster asked members to suggest possible new rides – please do some of the leg work as far as lodging, restaurants, places of interest etc.  Old favorite rides will also be scheduled, such as the ride to Meeker and the Green Cabins, a favorite from last year.

Safety Officer Bill Gert had words of wisdom concerning how to ride on slick and snow-packed roads: DON’T!   However, if you do get your bike out in the winter, be sure to check air pressure in the tires, as they bleed off in cold weather.  Also you might invest in a tread depth gauge to see if or when you need new tires.

Jesus Guerrero, Photographer/Historian, asked if club members would be interested in a presentation by Chuck Brown of Brown’s Cycles concerning the history of Harley Davidson in the Grand Junction area. Feedback was positive, but probably not until the March meeting.  Jesus still has several CDs of last year’s rides available for sale.

Terry thanked Dick Gigliotti for the new cards being printed for all members. These cards will have your name, national and local numbers and expiration dates, the director’s name and phone number, event dates and times, along with emergency info. These can be folded and carried in your wallet. Terry reminded members of the group ride etiquette of staggering riders behind the road captain, and also the procedure if someone has a problem: Only the last rider stops, while others continue to a safe stop location.  He reminded all that we need to get back to basics: Ride like hell, enjoy the rides, everybody come! The meeting was adjourned.
